Truck scales can be the lifeblood of a company. Traffic needs to be streamlined to and from the scale. The weighing process needs to be simple and easy to manage for operators. In addition, the equipment needs to be rugged enough to withstand the brutality of daily abuse. Some customers need specific functionality for their application not found in canned truck scale programs. To fit these requirements, Tennessee Scale Works, Inc. has assembled a core team of experienced engineers and products that are flexible enough to design and deliver almost any truck scale application.

Truck Scale Systems can be used for a variety of applications, most notably:

• Weighing of inbound materials.
• Weighing of outbound materials.

A typical Truck Scale System consists of a truck scale, a remote display, a weight indicator inside a scale house, and a program to run the overall process. Other devices could include lights to govern traffic and a printer for creating tickets. A system very similar to the one described was recently built for a railroad company in Kentucky.

The Truck Scale System was custom built to fit the company's requirements and consisted of:

• Avery Weigh-Tronix Model 1310 Programmable Indicator
• OkiData Microline 320 Turbo High Impact printer
• Avery Weigh-Tronix BMS 8011 Truck Scale

The Application

The application was to weigh an incoming truck, assign it an id and up to three materials. When the outbound weight was acquired, the sytem needed to recall information on a truck and then print a ticket showing the net weight along with the truck information. In addition, the system needed to print transaction reports on trucks in the yard and all completed transactions. A materials database, that could be edited by the operator, was included in the program as well.
